Schools, youth facilities and sports clubs are not safe places for young LGBT*I* or those who are considered to be! “Tranny” or “gay pig” are the most common swear words in schoolyards, derogatory “jokes” usually go unchallenged and especially when young people have the courage to come out, they often experience discrimination, bullying or social isolation. Not infrequently, already on a coming out out of fear of such reactions, the commitment in the club decreases or the school performance deteriorates rapidly.

SCHLAU (Gay-Lesbian (School)Education) counters prejudices against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans* and inter* constructively and with commitment. The volunteer team members make an important contribution to acceptance and a better social climate through professional educational workshops. In personal encounters, the participants receive an authentic image of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans* and inter*. Through a variety of methods, they are supported in openly addressing and questioning clichés and fears.

Workshops

The workshops are carried out by a young and committed team of volunteers. They have been prepared for this challenging task through qualification measures and are continuously accompanied by a pedagogical specialist.

Workshops take place on site or in one of our youth facilities in the cities of Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Mülheim an der Ruhr and in the districts of Wesel and Kleve. Appointments and individual preparation are made with the responsible teachers.
